Saturday's Hill-infested Hijacking.

The time: Saturday April 29. The temperature: 39ยบ. The location: McConnell's place. The line-up: Javens, Landino, George, McConnell, Harmer and a half a bag of mini chocolate doughnuts.

After a flat and uneventful first hour, the crew stops at Mugsies of New Wilmington for some hot java -- which by the way doesn't open till 8am on Saturdays - even if there are a half dozen or so Freaks in spandex hovering outside the door. Coffee was good and we were on our way. Headed out 208 towards Volant and then took a left on to "the Hill" which I hear is infamous among local cyclers. After that, the hits just kept on coming. A special shout goes out to D. George for taking the hills on his TREK mountain bike in sneakers and a dromedary pack on. Needless to say, he is now looking for a road bike.

After making a few rights and lefts and ascending a couple (4-5) more climbs we finally figured out where the hell we were. Our ride leader H-bomb did a comemerable job of finding about every hill from Hermitage to New Wilmington and getting us all home.

Needless to say, we were no longer cold. Total time was about 3 hours-- milage 35 or so miles.

Quick note for this coming week --Want to sart Tue and Thur rides from McConnell's. Check the side bar for times and locations as well as directions.

So long Freaks

Thurs 4-27 Ride Details

For those of you that missed out -- Thursday night's ride was a beaut. Despite strong gusts, we managed to pedal 30-35 miles in a little over 2.25 hours or so. An even dozen riders -- nice.

Don't forget -- Saturday's 6:30 'Crack of Dawn' ride starting at my place (corner of Robertson Rd and Rte 62 (East State St)). You can park in the lot next to my house. Since this is an 'early' ride, we'll work in a stop for coffee at Mugsies in New Wilmington. Hope to see some bodies there! And don't worry, we like to start off the morning right with a quick sprint up the hill to get the blood flowing. Last week we had 2 -- counting myself. We can do better than that.

Congrat's J-Mac

I would like to issue a warm and fuzzy congratulations to Mr. J-Mac for the work that he has done to get this blog spot up and running. I know that there are some of us that understand more than others how to get something up and running like this, however most probably don't have the time nor can find it. It is great to see that things are coming around for the entire group. I wanted to mention how everyone has gone on the rides and returned safely, but don't want to dwell to much into that for fear of setting a curse on the group. So everyone pat yourself on the shoulder for "some rides well done". Over the course of the next couple weeks, we have been thinking, we would like to get some other routes together. If anyone has any suggestions please let either John or myself know, or if I am correct you may blog this site. I am sure that we will be checking out this "blogger" regularly.

About tonights ride (Thursday the 27th), I am seeing a bit of wind coming from the West. Everyone should be prepared to push through the headstrong wind a little bit, until we get to turn around and have it work in our favor. Hopefully it wont turn on us and be in the front on the way back. I also just want to let everyone know that they are all more than welcome to sit on and get a draft "NASCAR Style, in NASCAR Country". The distance of the ride however long is easily overcome or easier to travel while taking a little break in a draft now and again. But those who want the full Meal Deal the whole time can simply tough it out in the head wind.

I also want to take a moment for those of you that are or will be, in the near future or later future, purchasing a new bicycle or thinking of the same, and mention "Cannondale". You may visit their web @ www.cannondale.com, and take a peak at all there lines. I can honestly say that "in my opinion" this is the best bicycle that I have ever riden. I have been on them my whole life and nothing responds like it. The line of clothing that they have, it is priceless. Everything wears like a glove, feels incredibly comfortable, and is readily available at Frankford bicycle, in Girard OH. You can also view some of their items that they have available on their website - www.frankfordbike.com

John has put a few links on the side of the blogger, but I wanted to also mention some that you may not know of if you are looking to make cycling oriented purchases:

www.jensonusa.com, www.nashbar.com, www.pricepoint.com, www.wheelworld.com, www.cambriabike.com, www.speedgoat.com, www.performance.com, www.coloradocyclist.com

those I am sure, as some could assume, are just a couple of many. If you are shopping my suggestion is to shop as many of the sites as you can tolerate as you may find that there are some really smokin deals out there. For mechanical tips you can go to www.bicycling.com and they have a section on that kinda stuff there. But don't be to shy to ask me and I will help any way that I can.

Tentatively (if I can drag my butt out of the sack) we are going to ride from Johns Sat. am. I am trying to convince him that we ride to New Wilmington and stop for some of that really good coffee. I hope to see a couple of you "2wf's" out there for the Saturday LSD ride.

Take care and if you need any questions answered or you would like any suggestions you may blog the site, and or email john or myself.

Greetings Freaks

Proud to be the first to sign on to the new bikers blog of Mercer County temporarily known as 2-Wheel'd Freaks for a lack of a better name. Who knows, this one may grow on us. This blog has created itself out of a need for communication between fellow cyclists in the Shenango Valley and surrounding areas. Let this blog serve as a hub for information on everything from tube repair to training schedules. 2WF is a place to find fellow freaks (cyclists), coordinate their rides, exchange routes and anything else cycle related.

History: a couple of guys got together with the intent of forming a group of cyclists. They then joined together under the name of Team Courage - for the sake of riding in charity bike rides throughout the season. Before long, this group tripled in size and interest grew. From that interes arose 2WF -- a cycling club for those interested in the occassional ride, the competitive race and even the 150 mile route. We hope to have not only road riders but moutain bikers as well. Basically, anything on 2 wheels (man-powered).

For all of you on Team Courage, don't worry, it's not going anywhere. We just thought that would be a specific group within 2WF whose sole purpose is riding in the many charity rides throughout the season. For those of you not interested in finding the sponsors and raising the money for these rides, you are still welcome to join the club.

Look around --there isn't much here right now, but if you know me, there will be shortly. I'll admit, this is my first blogging experience and I'm not exactly sure what this baby can do just yet, but I intend to find out. Click around and do the same. Before long will be posting route maps, milage charts and ride logs as well as sharing photos of our bikes and maybe ourselves.

With that, i guess i should add just one note -- BE SMART. With all
the crap going around today about the internet and blog sites etc, the best piece of advice is just use your head before posting. Enough said. Hey, i think this thing is going to rock!

So long Freaks!
