Poor Showing for Saturday

Well, I must say I was i little disappointed with the turnout for this Saturday morning. Debbie & Mike had some refreshments and snacks ready for us and were really excited about having us ride from their shop. We had 4 riders for 6:30AM and 2 for the 8AM (both new riders at that). I wasn't expecting a lot for the early ride but thought we'd get at least 6-7 for the later ride.

I AM NOT GIVING UP! There is no ride Tue due to the holiday, but we are scheduled to ride from The Bicycle Store again on next Satuday (they are planning on having a big tent set up with vendors and such). I know a lot of you will be tied up with a MTB event, but i'd rally like everyone else to make a good showing. I'm going to try a lot harder to get anyone I know with a bike out there and i plan on leading them and staying with them. I don't want to be a STATIC riding broup, I want to be DYNAMIC -- accomodating to riders of all levels. If we get large enough, people will find people to ride with at their own level. In saying that, I would really like all of you READERS to start becoming WRITERS -- to start using this blog to POST YOUR OWN RIDES -- TIMES -- ROUTES, etc. That way, if you work till 6 on Tue and Thur and can't make the ride, you can find someone else out there looking to ride at another time.

I'm rambling here. To reiterate briefly -- let's jump start this group and try to grow it. Also, USE THIS BLOG!!! I'll work on seeing if I can put up a 'ride board' for people looking for people to ride on off days/hours. I am no where near giving up on the vision that is the 2-Wheel'd Freakz.

ANYONE READING THIS, PLEASE COMMENT BELOW WHETHER OR NOT YOU'LL BE ABLE TO MAKE NEXT SATURDAY'S RIDE A THE BICYCLE STORE. A YES OR NO WOULD REALLY HELP IN HELPING DEB and MIKE PREPARE.

thanks again all

Hey I'm new here. I'm going to try to make one of these Saturday rides. I work the 3-11 pm shift so evening rides are out for me. Does anyone ride the Lake Wilhelm trail? I never see anyone else on it on the weekdays and I don't go there on weekends. I was over at the bike store on Saturday helping my sister in law pick out a new bike. She had an autobike which I affectionately named "the iron horse". I couldn't believe how heavy those things are. She bought a hybred and seems to really like it. I plan on taking her and my wife out to try their luck on the Wilhelm trail on Tuesday afternoon. That will be a slow ride I'm sure. I'll probably take my mountain bike. Today (Monday) I'm going to ride my Trek 1000 and see how quick I can make it around the lake. My best time so far has been 40 minutes one day last summer and I haven't been able to duplicate that time this year. I bought a bell for my 1000 and it is too small for the handlebars, maybe I can mount it with some duck tape? Gotta warn those walkers that I'm coming through.

Longjohn,

welcome aboard! Hope to see you on one of our weekend rides then. I'm actually heading up to MK Goddard (Lake Wilhelm) today with my girls to do the loop. Haven't done it in it's entirety and looks like a good day for it.

See you on the road

I'll be watching for a 35 year old guy traveling with girls. I'm a 6' 5" 56 year old guy with white hair and hopefully all you will see is a blurr as I go by. I usually travel the trail clockwise and I might stop around the five mile mark for a swim if it looks like I am not going to beat my time (it may be too crowded to go fast). I never tried the trail on a weekend or holliday.

Thanks j-mac for all your work and determination. And thanks to Mike and Debbie for rolling out the hospitality. It was a great time had by all. I was only one scratch off box away from winning a ride with Lance. I think I'll ride over and try again today. I feel lucky. Andrew and I are racing at Brockway on the fourth. Details at www.smileymiles.com if any else is interested. Looking forward to see you all on sat.
